Harpswell Silks artisan Janet Nannen of Harpswell, ME, creates  hand dye-painted silk scarves with colors and patterns inspired by the land, sea and seasons of Maine. Using a variety of techniques, Janet applies brilliant dyes in multiple layers, resulting in patterns and textures by using organic materials, such as wood chips, salt, dry grasses to modify the wet dye. Her scarves are made of silk crepe-de-chine, a long-wearing fabric, lustrous in look and light to the touch. Scarves are sold at seasonal juried shows and several shops/galleries in Maine, including the annual Work of the Hand show at Maine Center for Contemporary Art, the Maine Crafts Association gallery in Gardiner, Handworks Gallery in Blue Hill, and the Society of Southern Maine Craftsmen shows. Janet will custom dye scarves to your color choices. Contacts: hjnannen@comcast.net; 207-725-6182 phone
